The Broncos face arguably the greatest dilemma in the club’s long history after sacking coach Kevin Walters on Thursday night.
The best qualified coach available to replace Walters is Michael Maguire – a man who has won grand finals in both Super League and the NRL.
But the same Maguire is the coach who ended Queensland’s cherished State of Origin reign this season, making him public enemy number one in the sunshine state.

Maguire is a renowned disciplinarian who will get the Broncos thinking more about football than their social media profiles – one allegation that those inside the club believe led to this year’s fall from grace.
After coming within moments of winning the 2023 grand final, the Broncos crashed and burned this season, missing the playoffs and ultimately costing Walters his job.

Others in the mix to replace Walters are former Eels coach Brad Arthur, experienced assistant coach Josh Hannay and former Titans coach Justin Holbrook, currently at the Roosters.
Walters made the finals just once in four years as head coach of the Broncos and the club made the tough call to sack him after an extensive internal review.
