Brock Lesnar returns to WWE at SummerSlam 2025, attacks John Cena

Brock Lesnar made his return to WWE and made his intentions known as to why.

Lesnar has not worked publicly with the company since losing to Cody Rhodes at SummerSlam in 2023.

While Rhodes regained the WWE Undisputed Championship after a victory over John Cena in a street fight to headline SummerSlam on Sunday, Aug. 3, Lesnar arrived with Cena in his sights instead of seeking revenge on the new champion.

Lesnar and Cena have a long history and it appears the two are set to add to it.

When will Brock Lesnar and John Cena have a match?

An official match between Lesnar and Cena has not been announced, but it’s expected to happen following the situation that closed out SummerSlam.

The match could take place at WWE’s next premium live event titled “Clash in Paris” in Nanterre, France, on Aug. 31.

Why has Brock Lesnar been away from WWE?

Lesnar has been away from WWE since 2023, but was planned to return for the Royal Rumble in 2024. Lesnar did not appear at the event after Janel Grant filed a lawsuit in the days leading up to the event. Grant was a former employee at the WWE global headquarters from 2019 to 2022.

Grant alleged that WWE co-founder Vince McMahon forced her into a sexual relationship with him, former executive John Laurinaitis and an unnamed wrestler who had previously competed in the UFC.

Lesnar was the most notable wrestler at the time who had a history as a competitor in both the WWE and UFC. Lesnar’s name was identified in a later report by The Wall Street Journal.

Paul Levesque, the WWE’s Chief Content Officer, was asked about Lesnar’s status during a WrestleMania Press Conference in April with reporters and content creators.

“Right now, Brock is at home being Brock,” said Levesque, who is also known as Triple H. “We’ll see where that leads to from here. His status is the same as it has been before. Brock is not gone from WWE. He’s just home being Brock.”

The WWE did not hold a press conference with members of the media after either night of SummerSlam this weekend.
